Applying for a 2006 PEP Grant?

The NEW-LIFESTYLES NL-1000 just may be your ticket to winning a 2006 PEP Grant. After reading the new 2006 PEP Grant performance (Physical Activity Measure) and efficiency measure requirements, it's clearer than ever that the NL-1000 accelerometer with MVPA™ Timer is going to be a big hit with grant application evaluators. Why is that, you might ask? The NL-1000 easily and effectively meets both the performance and efficiency measures: it is engineered to gather MVPA (moderate to vigorous physical activity) data and is available at a low cost per student.

Using an accelerometer (and the same internal accelerometer mechanism as the research-validated NL-2000) which can judge the intensity of movement, the NL-1000 keeps track of minutes spent doing moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). AND, it has the added convenience of 7-day memory. It will tally up for you, the total number of minutes spent in MVPA per week/per student. Using this feature, you will be able to determine in a matter of seconds if your students have reached the 150 minutes of MVPA/week or 225 minutes of MVPA/week standard set by PEP grant administration.

What's more, the NL-1000 is as easy to use as a DIGI-WALKER, making it a better overall choice to determine MVPA. Heart rate monitors may be great for PE class, but they are not something that kids or people in general are going to wear all day. With heart rate monitors, you have to deal with the hassle of a chest strap. Pedometers, on the other hand, are unobtrusive. Students and adults are comfortable and used to wearing pedometers--and they will want to wear them. Unlike so many heart rate monitors, the NL-1000 accelerometers are not something that will be shoved in a school closet and forgotten because they are too hard to learn or take too long to master. We're confident teachers will learn to master the NL-1000 in minutes and will find the NEW-LIFESTYLES accelerometer a pleasure to use.
